A Message From Our Head Honcho

For as long as I can remember, I have been surrounded by business…

My grandparents owned a small butcher shop in Littlestown, Pennsylvania, and my mother and father both worked for them. I grew up on what looks like my mother’s back in the pictures or in a high chair in the corner of the cutting room as my mom wrapped meat from morning to night as my father worked the kill floor and cut the carcasses down into finished cuts or stuffing out thousands of lbs of bologna and sausage.

I grew up working every step of my life, from pulling turnips in my grandpa’s garden to raising my chickens to sell their eggs to my grandma to all sell in the storefront. As I got older, my parents decided to enter into business after reading the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki and putting up a dream for the whole family to follow.

Those years were not always great, as we bought a small jerky company first and mortgaged our house to the max. I was 14 and could see the fear in my parent’s eyes, but also the drive to become something more and push themselves beyond what they thought they could. From 2001 to 2004, the jerky Company grew, and in 2004, the chance to repurchase the family butcher shop came into play.

After taking over the butcher shop, things only got more complicated as the person who had bought the business from my grandparents had destroyed the business’s name and reputation and needed to be completely remodeled. I remember crying with my dad the summer I graduated high school in 2006 because we didn’t know if we would make payroll on Monday, and I was encouraged to go to college.

At that point, I had seen the worst of business in my life. The stress and the fear were on my father’s and mother’s faces, but they still pushed, and so did I, along with my sister. I never went to college; instead, I built a business with my family that started with 1 employee (my mom) and, by the end of 2019, had 48.

In 2019, I pushed myself like my parents and bought a portion of the Company as my sister purchased the retail and butcher shop. I bought out our jerky division and set out to push myself and build a team of great people around me to take for the ride. As the Company split, I had around 23 employees for the jerky location. Since 2019, along with a fantastic hire, the late Bob Hazlett, my sales grew, and so did the team.

I worked longer and harder than I thought possible, all while raising 3 kids and coaching. I poured my heart into my team and Company, and today, I watched a video that made every late night, every tear dropped, every moment I thought, “Why don’t I just get a regular job” fade away.

The video below makes me proud in two ways…

First, I also have other brands that I private label for who have the same story, but Max the Meat Guy was the first to show the process. It makes me so proud to be part of someone else’s dream coming true, just like mine has. If you haven’t yet done so, we encourage you to visit www.Maxthemeatguy.com and take a look at their superior product selection.

Second, I could not be more proud of the team I have around me right now. This is just a quick overview of the Company and how we have reached this point.

I have a fantastic crew and have set a vision everyone has latched onto. I am blessed and excited to continue to grow.

Let’s partner together and achieve remarkable sales growth with a mouth-watering product.
